The Ohio Adult Care Facilities Association helps its members by providing additional training and assistance to home operators to complement what is required for licensure. Our trainers are seasoned home operators with extensive backgrounds in operating some of Ohio’s most successful homes. Their insight and experience can help you through the process of starting a home or enhancing your existing business.
For official trainings through the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services to meet licensure requirements, please visit mha.ohio.gov. Owner/operators are required to receive twelve hours of mental health and administrative training coordinated by OhioMHAS for their licensure.

Information on training and resources for Adult Care Facility and Adult Foster Homes that is coordinated by OhioMHAS can be located here. The American Red Cross and other entities offer CPR and First Aid training in local communities.

Additional training on Adult Care Facilities, or working with persons with mental illness or substance abuse may be offered in your local community by private behavioral health providers and other organizations. Some events may be listed on the OhioMHAS events calendar or here.

The Ohio Department of Health requires an extensive background search on all employees hired to work in Adult Care Facilities. Please familiarize yourself with the registries and websites below that will be helpful in completing your search. Remember to print the results and include them in your employee files.
