We currently have approximately 400 adult care facilities/adult family homes - housing approximately 5000 citizens -in the State of Ohio. We want to foster and develop public education to work toward the expansion of adult care facilities throughout Ohio, as viable providers of meaningful housing services to the severely mentally disabled.

Our Mission
Our mission is to represent the Ohio adult care facilities industry, to continue to improve the quality of service and care, and to provide training, technology and advocacy for this purpose.

We speak as "one voice" and are attempting to eliminate the barriers of becoming a vital element of the community mental health system.

We advocate for the inclusion of adult care facility operators in the decision-making process with policy-makers, as it relates to housing for this disabled population.

We hope to overcome the lack of understanding and offer training to the home operators as well as providing training/information to enlighten the workers in the mental health community about the needs of our residents.

Our efforts on behalf of these home operators and citizens have been recognized and, for the past two years, we have received a grant from the Ohio Department of Mental Health to provide training, technology, cultural competency and systems' advocacy.

We have also received financial support from the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Ohio (NAMI Ohio). We have offered training retreats to our members as well as a rally and symposium at the Ohio Statehouse.

We have published newsletters for our members, which have also been distributed to State’s Government Administrative departments as well as to community mental health boards, State Representatives and State Senators.

We are eager to educate and reach out to any organization or any individual who is willing to learn of our advocacy and of the need to assist these “often forgotten” citizens.

Without our homes, these residents end up in jails, prisons, under bridges and in homeless shelters and they are counting on us for their survival.

We will continue to advocate for the continuing/increased availability of adult care facilities in all Ohio counties.
